When we bought this house five years I wasn't too sure about this kitchen.
The walls and cabinets are made from solid pine paneling original to the home.
The previous owner had primed and painted everything white thank goodness or it would have been a dungeon.
However everything in this kitchen but the floors and counter top was white down to the sink and light fixtures.
So we have slowly been making some changes. The most major has been replacing the old appliances with stainless ones, squealsss!
My husband replaced the sink and faucet a few years back and was that a story in itself, I think there were no less than fours trips to the hardware store that day LOL.
I recently decided to paint the cabinets and decided upon a green color and the walls under the cabinets the palest shade of yellow.
The kitchen did not originally have an island cabinet found one on Craigslist for a hundred bucks! Someone was remodeling a nearly brand new kitchen and parting out the cabinets I think we racked up. The island is laminated so I just left it white and I guess that's OK
. Above the cabinets was flat but as I really didn't want to put up a wallpaper border as had been up there previously I ended up using wood appliques. The appliques added a shabby chic cottagy kinda charm the kitchen seemed to need.
Then I dug out my grandmothers black trivets and the pot rack that hung in my childhood home for many years.
I am very pleased with how it turned out! I cannot find the before pictures think they are on my last computer which suffered a tragic hard drive death....
